As the world absorbs the reality of Mother Nature’s power, the topic of Disaster Preparedness becomes increasingly top of mind. How do we prepare, and how can the public help? In North Texas, the American Red Cross Dallas Area Chapter, The Salvation Army DFW Metroplex Command, the Volunteer Center of North Texas and the North Texas Food Bank have been working for two years to improve our level of Mass Care preparedness. With leadership investments from the W.W. Carith, Jr. Foundation at the Communities Foundation of Texas, Dr Pepper Snapple, Southwest Airlines, 48 Nights, and the Hoblitzelle Foundation, the group has increased our mass care response capability by almost double in the last year. Keep your eye out for a preparedness announcement in May! In the mean time, make sure your family and workplace are prepared, and log on to vcnt.org to sign up to be a pre-registered disaster volunteer.
